In this picture I painted two women who are attending a festival. The women's appearance is inspired by the way that young women often present themselves on social media, busy in their own world. Both pose in their own way and seem to be confident, allowing the interpretation and question of "are the girls in the painting familiar with each other?"
I used symbolism to detail the painting, whether it be the clothing, as the woman on the left wears a mix of Oriental and European clothing adorned with gold jewelry, similar to that worn on an Indian Bride - Gold highlighting wealth. Yet, the woman on the right shows her individual style through her clothes, which are inspired by a Spanish designer.
On the one hand, tradition meets modernity and I show how culturally different people celebrate each other, but on the other, I ask the question of whether the people are really a together in a unit or separate individuals?
